Making of Basingstoke

Summer 2007

Young people in Basingstoke are being given a unique opportunity to help make their town a place to be proud of. Through this innovative project young residents are looking at creative ways to celebrate and enhance areas of the town centre.

This project is supported by the Local Network Fund and Basingstoke & Dean Borough Council.

Street Art, Buckskin

Branding Project with DesignSpy

Summer 2007

Working with professional design company DesignSpy, young people in Buckskin (Basingstoke) can learn about brands and design, and create an official brand for The Making's Street Art project. Theatre of Making- Inspired by Nature

Thank you to all the artists and volunteers, and staff at West Dean for their excellent work and support for our Theatre of Making - Inspired by Nature event. The workshops and seminar were a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Some images of the days activities can be viewed here.

Architecture Week

John Hunt of Everest Community College

Saturday 23 June 2007, 10:00-16:00

Take part in a 3D design workshop being run by artists Adam Paddon and Thomas Joynes, who have been commissioned to create a public sculpture for the new Everest Community College building in Basingstoke. Suitable for ages 5yrs+. All children aged 5-12 yrs and individuals with special needs should be accompanied by an adult or carer. For information on how to join the workshop call 01256 845 674.

The often tricky transition for school pupils to the FE/college environment is the focus of this term's meeting. Tutors from Basingstoke College of Technology and Queen Mary's College will offer advice and show example portfolios to help clarify expectations about quality and quantity of work required from new students.

This session will also have a focus on textiles with input from teachers who are using the work of artist Alice Kettle as inspiration for Yr 10 projects.

Popley Festival 2007

Come and join in our exciting Street Art activities for young people at this year's Festival, the largest community event in Basingstoke.

Brighton based stencil artist Hutch will be designing and producing his original brand of T-shirts.

A Rough Guide to Surviving in the Crafts

A seminar for new and emerging makers at University College for the Creative Arts Farnham.
How to present your work and knowing whom to contact can be as crucial to a successful career as your ability as an artist. This seminar will demonstrate how to make positive changes to the way you work and help you to survive in a competitive world.

Speakers include: Lorna Dallas Conte, Gareth Mason, Simon Taylor, Madeleine Furness.

Theatre of Making- 12 Days Of Christmas

Festival Place, Basingstoke

As part of Basingstokes '12 Days of Christmas' celebrations, The Theatre of Making provided shoppers with the chance to create their own unique gifts and Christmas decorations. Artist Samantha Bryan, creator of the enchanting Brains Fairies led workshops in Porchester Square - the heart of Festival Place shopping centre.
